Col K D Pathak (Retd) के अनुसार “एक फ़ौजी का रैंक कभी भी रिटायर नही होती, यह तो एक ऑफिसर होता है जो रिटायर होता है”| इस पर आगे बढ़ते हुए Lt Gen P N Hoon (Retd) कहते है कि “Rank is earned by an officer and like the civilian awardees of Padam Bhushan do not write retired after the honour, why should Army officers write retired after their rank or name”
आइये हम एक फौजी के कन्धे पर लगे सितारो से उस के रैंक की पहचान जाने –
1. Field Marshal –
फील्ड मार्शल रैंक सेना मे सर्वोच्च पद होता था| जिस को वर्तमान मे सेना ने समाप्त कर दिया है| भारतीय सेना मे आज तक सिर्फ दो फील्ड मार्शल रहे है – Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw और Field Marshal K M Cariappa| उन की पहचान नीचे दिये गए पदचिह्न के होती है|
2. General –
वर्तमान मे जनरल भारत की सेना का सर्वोच्च रैंक है| उन की पहचान नीचे दिये गए पदचिह्न के होती है|
3. Lieutenant general-
यहाँ भारतीय मे दूसरा सर्वोच्च रैंक है| उन की पहचान नीचे दिये गए पदचिह्न के होती है|
4. Major General –
भारतीय सेना मे मेजर जनरल का पद भारतीय जल सेना के रियर एड्मिरल और भारतीय वायु सेना के एयर वाइस मार्शल की रैंक के बराबर होता है| उन की पहचान नीचे दिये गए पदचिह्न के होती है|
5. Brigadier –
ब्रिगड़िएर भारतीय सेना का एक उच्च रैंक होती है| जिस की पहचान नीचे दिये गए पदचिन्ह से की जाती है|
6. Colonel-
भारतीय सेना मे कर्नल रैंक Brigadier से नीचे और Lieutenant colonel से उच्च रैंक होती है| जिस की पहचान नीचे दिये गए पदचिन्ह होती है|
7. Lieutenant colonel-
भारतीय सेना मे Lieutenant colonel के रैंक का पदचिन्ह मे अशोक चिन्ह और एक 5 सितारा के बीच अशोक चिन्ह बना होता है|
8. Major-
मेजर एक Commissioned Officer होता है , जिस को मैनेजमेंट और लीडरशिप का ट्रेनिंग मिला होता है| वह हर मिशन का एक खास हिस्सा होता है| जिस की पहचान नीचे दिये गए पदचिन्ह होती है|
9. Captian-
कैप्टन भी मेजर की तरह Commissioned officer होता है| जिस की रैंक मेजर से नीचे होती है| कैप्टन का पदचिन्ह मे तीन 5 पंखुड़ी वाले सितारे होते है जिन के बीच मे अशोक चिन्ह बना होता है|
10. Lieutenant-
Lieutenant को Lt., LT., LTA, Lieut. और LEUT. भी लिखा जाता है| पदचिन्ह मे दो 5 पंखुड़ी वाले सितारे होते है, जिन के बीच मे अशोक चिन्ह बना होता है|
11. Subedar-major-
सबेदार मेजर का पद junior commissioned officer मे सब से उच्च होता है| इन के पदचिन्ह मे अशोक चिन्ह के साथ 2 लाल पट्टी के बीच एक पीली पट्टी होती है|
12. Subedar –
हर बटालियन मे कई सूबेदार होते है| सूबेदार भी एक जूनियर Commissioned ऑफिसर होता है| जिन का पदचिन्ह नीचे दिया गया है|
13. Naib subedar –
नाइब सूबेदार को 1965 तक जमादार भी कहा जाता था| जिस का पदचिन्ह मे एक 5 सितारा के बीच अशोक चिन्ह होता है और 2 लाल पट्टियों के बीच मे एक पीली पट्टी होती है|
नाइब सूबेदार के नीचे का रैंक हवलदार, नायक, लांस नायक और सिपाही होते है| जिन के बाजू पर लगे पदचिन्ह नीचे की तरह होते है|
